Please help us fund “Solidarity Park – A memorial with lessons for today!”

On 30th May 1937, the Ciudad de Barcelona, a ship bringing up to 300 brigadistas to the Spanish Civil War, was sunk by a fascist torpedo just off the coast of Malgrat de Mar, Catalonia.

At least 45 lost there life’s that day but the true figure is likely to be much higher as the ship sailed in clandestine conditions. Many more of them would have died was it not for actions of the local people of Malgrat on the day, which came hurriedly to their rescue. In this the 80th anniversary. Please help us remember these heroes and continue the important historical research.

In this time when right wing popularism is achieving large votes in various places around the world and we have the election of president Trump it is more important than ever that we remember the International brigades for a new generation, to help us combat bigotry and blame. That the plight of immigrants and refugees is the struggle of us all.

The brigadists stood for solidarity, liberty and freedom. They were fighting for an equal world for all. They stood for all humanity. That is why this memorial project at every level promotes community involvement in a participatory manner. This includes the intention of getting local secondary school students to design aspects of the memorial and people locally and internationally collaborating again to come actually help create the art work.

The memorial art work is inspired by the numerous stories that the Brigadistas aboard the sinking ship sang the Internationale.

We are calling to you International workers movement to help us raise the money for our Heroes.
