Participación de estudiantes en el proyecto Solidarity Park

In partnership with the Solidarity Park memorial project teachers from different countries Spain, Germany, England and Australia and from different specialities History, Art, English, Catalan and Spanish have been working on an educational project about the sinking of the ship “Ciudad de Barcelona”. This ship was bringing International Brigadistas to the Spanish civil war in 1937.

Students at Institute Ramon Turrói Darder in Malgrat de Mar interview Solidarity park Artist Rob MacDonald.

The first objective for the students is to read the documents, look at the photographs, to find information about what was the real history of the “Ciudad de Barcelona” and to investigate who were the International Brigades.

The second challenge is that they look information about one of the volunteers and explain their history by making a video or an art work. The students will investigate in cooperative teams and follow the mirror projects of students different other countries.

Students @NowraHighSchool Australia artistic work about the history of Ciudad de Barcelona.

They will learn that art can document history, to explore political themes and be used as a memorial to recognise past events.
Students will learn about Solidarity Park’s artist Rob MacDonald his Stone art making practice and learn about the process of creating a community artwork.
They will also gain an understanding of the importance of remembering the past so we make positive choices for the future. The work will encourage the students to think about the overarching concepts of freedom, solidarity and internationalism today.
These and other students will be invited to submit designs that will be considered for inclusion as carvings in the window of the ship that forms part of the physical memorial.
It is hoped this project will be expanded in 2018-19. So if you are interested please contact
